Don’t Despise Your Single Season!

In my single days I had a strong desire to get married, and it was difficult for me to wait patiently on God’s timing. At that time, I remember God showing me these verses:

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭7:32-35: I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs—how he can please the Lord. But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world—how he can please his wife— and his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord’s affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world—how she can please her husband. I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord. (NIV)

Being married now, I have a better understanding of what the apostle Paul meant. Paul wanted Christians to be able to focus on God without distractions. For example, a wife has the responsibility of taking care of her husband and children, so she may not be able to devote as much time to being alone with God. Also, a husband may need to work more than before to meet his family’s needs.

In sharing this, I just wanted to encourage singles in the body of Christ: don’t despise this season of your life! The time you have right now is very valuable. I encourage you to use it to pray more and study the Bible as much as possible. If you are having a hard time waiting on God’s timing for marriage, you can pray for Jesus to help you be patient and keep your focus on Him. God can surely help you!
