When Friends Hurt You

Proverbs‬ ‭17:9‬ ‭AMP‬‬

He who covers and forgives an offense seeks love, But he who repeats or gossips about a matter separates intimate friends.

When someone you care about hurts or offends you, it can be very painful. In some cases, that person may never even realize or acknowledge the hurt that they caused which can lead to more resentment.

What I realized is that as long as we have relationships with other people, we will eventually find something that hurts or offends us. We will never find a person who always does things 100% right. That is why forgiveness is the only way any relationship can survive.

If someone you care about has hurt you, you have two options. You can choose to hold on to what they did, which will ruin the relationship and hinder your walk with God. Or, you can choose to forgive and maintain a good relationship with that person.

Think about it, are all the good qualities of that person worth throwing away because of what they did? Do you think you may one day regret allowing hurt and resentment to keep you apart?

Sometimes a person will not realize until it is too late that it was not worth losing their friend or loved one over the temporary hurt or anger that they felt.

Choosing forgiveness isn’t easy, but it’s always the right choice! Jesus said that if we do not forgive others, He will not forgive us for our sins either (Matthew 6:14-15).
If you have difficulty forgiving someone, the good news is that you can pray for Jesus to help you. After all, He also knows how it feels to be hurt by those He loves.

Proverbs‬ ‭10:12‬ ‭NIV‬‬
Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs.
